As a mom who has not had a single one of my four children in a hospital - this site scares me. It is exactly what we do not need - a legitimate-looking site where women seeking information will get bombarded with fear, lies, and outright anger. I pity her...how sad it must be to constantly look for the worst in others who differ in their point of view.

Dr. Amy does not debate. It should be called "bashing homebirth". There is NO debate. Her biased, unfactual OPINIONS do not make for a debate. This blog is not about debate, it is about a bitter woman bullying others and speaking about a profession she knows nothing about. This blog is a definite winner for *worst* place -- the blog lies from the very title! Don't be fooled - it is not a place to debate. Rather, it is a place for Dr. Amy to play "let's smack down anyone who doesn't vehemently oppose homebirth, regardless of if they have a point!" Yawn. On the playground, those people are called bullies. And after a very short while, no one wants to engage with them anymore. Perhaps it's hard for Dr. Amy to even consider the possibility that OB/GYN standards of care could be wrong - ALL medical specialties change over time, some changes are definite improvements while others end up doing more harm than good (and eventually change again!). Like many OBs, she probably hasn't even seen enough normal, spontaneous, unmedicated labors to really know what they look like (and how widely they can vary from mother to mother!), so I'm pretty sure that her MD degree doesn't qualify her to speak about the midwifery model of care (whether at hospital, birth center, or home). Honestly, I'm not sure why Dr. Amy is so hateful and bitter about other people having evidence (whether scientific and/or experiential) that out-of-hospital birth can be done safely, intelligently, and with a skilled non-MD care provider. I'm sure she doesn't rake her patients who want elective c-sections over the coals for all the risks and dangers it entails (and I'm talking about the "I'm just tired of being pregnant" kind of elective, not the medically-based elective)... yet somehow, she feels compelled to rail against the mothers who are seeking qualified, high-caliber providers to attend their births at home. Sadly, any good that could come from a debate on homebirth is NOT to be found on Dr. Amy's blog - it's her own little virtual domain where she gets to play God when she's away from her day job (that of playing God in L&D and the OR, where, didn't ya know, the moms who would like a gentle birth for their babies without a spate of interventions are all just whiny, selfish, uneducated peons... or are they?).

Wow, this Dr. Amy has issues. I'm amazed to be considered trendy and that the wonderful women who have attended my births are not skilled or trained. I personally know many of the other women who's births they have attended I would have to say that we would disagree strongly with them being called untrained. My midwivies were actually the only individuals that I encountered in the medical community (after 4 births, 3 in hospital and finally 1 beautiful homebirth) that knew how to support women during "NATURAL CHILDBIRTH". I am looking forward to my next birth at home this summer with trained homebirth midwivies. Maybe dr. amy needs to go back to school.

Guess I'm one of those dangerous, untrained, unqualified midwives. I have to say, however, that if I was as persuasive as Dr. Amy suggests--in that I am able to "reeducate' and "indoctrinate"--I'd certainly be using it to get paid more, to attain professional recognition within government entities, and to get my husband to clean up more often.

"Dr. Amy" is a paid hackey of the american college of obstetrics and gynecology. "She" has no known active license anywhere in the U.S., and therefore is not a practicing physician. ACOG pays her to condemn home birth in the U.S. because it is on the rise and people are sick of organizations like ACOG telling us what to do! She rarely uses evidence based information and refuses to answer why she doesn't practice medicine.
